Safety Director Dave Thompson Guest Speaker at PCEA Meeting

Henderson Safety Director Dave Thompson was a guest speaker at the February Membership meeting of the National Professional Construction Estimators Association of America (PCEA), Hampton Roads Chapter on Wednesday evening, February 8th.

Dave spoke about the tangible and intangible costs of safety. Safety is an unexpected cost of construction that many don’t take seriously. With more emphasis on safe working sites by the customer, the cost is not just in the training required, but the effort to ensure that each and every project and construction company has a clean safety slate.

Henderson Participates in Elementary School Career Fair

Henderson participated in Clara Byrd Baker Elementary School’s Career Fair for fourth and fifth graders on Monday, January 30th. Vice President Mike Van Sickel and Marketing Coordinator Laura Coletrane spoke to approximately 200 students about careers in the construction industry and the education required. They also spoke to the students about school subjects like math, science, language arts, technology, and art that were important in the industry. The students all talked about their favorite subjects and how they personally could get involved in construction.

Luter Family YMCA Ribbon Cutting

Saturday, January 21, 2012 marked the unveiling of the newly renovated Luter Family YMCA in Smithfield, Va. After the ribbon cutting ceremony, there were free screenings, inflatables, activities for kids, healthy snacks and refreshments, TRX, group exercise classes and more. Henderson, Inc. was on hand for the festivities and was proud to show off our hard work!

I have had the privilege to serve on the R.F. Wilkinson Family YMCA Board of Directors since 2007, however my experience with the YMCA started much earlier than that. My first memories are from the 90's when Henderson, Inc. was selected as the General Contractor on our first YMCA project. Over the last two decades, Henderson has built numerous YMCA projects and more importantly prospered many friendships and long lasting relationships.

Henderson, Inc. 2011 Year in Review: Fortunate for what we have, what we’ve given and what the future holds

77 As 2011 comes to a close it's appropriate to reflect back on the many successes Henderson, Inc. has had throughout the year and since the start of the "Great Recession" in 2008. We have come to realize that while 2009 was a year of downsizing and 2010 was a year of restructuring, 2011 has become a year of reinventing and reinvesting in our people, our company, our clients and our community. While the construction industry is obviously not out of the woods, there is a noticeable thinning of the trees and Henderson, Inc. has a renewed sense of hope.

Henderson Sponsored Two Families for the Holidays

Henderson and its employees embraced the spirit of the holiday season and generously donated monetary gifts and new clothes, jackets, shoes, and toys for two Williamsburg, Virginia area families.

The families, one with three girls ages 5 – 12 years old, and the other with two boys ages 5 – 12 years old, received the items on Thursday, December 22, wrapped and ready to go under the tree, just in time for Christmas!

R.F. Wilkinson YMCA 10th Annual Festival of the Trees


Henderson, Inc. was proud to be a gold sponsor of the R.F. Wilkinson YMCA’s 10th Annual Festival of the Trees on Friday, December 2, 2011. The event was held at the William and Mary Alumni House and included both a silent and live auction. This year they raised $27,000 with proceeds benefiting the YMCA Strong Communities Campaign which provides scholarships to families in the YMCA’s programs. The Festival of the Trees was very well attended and a great time was had by all.

Henderson hosts Corporate Landing Middle School at Busch Gardens

Henderson, Inc. hosted eight 6th grade students and two teachers from Corporate Landing Middle School in Virginia Beach on Monday, December 5, 2011 at Busch Gardens.
