Mike Van Sickel Attains National Design-Build Certification
Vice President Mike Van Sickel has successfully completed the requirements for the nationally recognized Assoc. Designated Design-Build Professional™ certification (Assoc. DBIA™). The Design-Build Institute of America (DBIA) awarded designated status to Mike upon his successful completion of coursework and formal examination in all aspects of design-build project delivery. Surf Rider Restaurant at Whitehouse Cove Marina Opens
Henderson is proud to announce the opening of the new Surf Rider restaurant, located at Whitehouse Cove Marina in Poquoson, VA. City officials joined owner/developers, contractors and the public for a ribbon cutting ceremony on April 17th. This is the 8th Surf Rider in the Hampton Roads area.
The four-month project consisted of a 6,000 SF building to include a 1,200 SF covered outdoor patio. The building sits on timber piles while overlooking the marina. Visitors are able to access the restaurant by boat, through the Whitehouse Cove waterway.
Colonial Heritage 5k
On Saturday, May 5th Henderson had a team of 30 runners and walkers participate in the Colonial Heritage 5k. The 5k was run through Colonial Heritage Active Adult Community in Williamsburg, Virginia, an ongoing Henderson job site.
Vice President Mike Van Sickel, Project Manager Jordan Anglin, and Business Development Coordinator Caroline Kelley all received awards for placing in the top three in their age groups.
Welcome Mike Willard
Henderson would like to welcome Mike Willard, our new senior estimator. Mike started with Henderson in April and brings 39 years of construction estimating experience. He has worked on projects all over the United States and projects valued up to $300 million. In his free time, Mike enjoys spending time with his wife and their cats, and visiting his two children. Mike also officiates USA Swimming and Virginia Peninsula Swimming Union swim meets.

Williamsburg Landing Renovation Team Appreciation Lunch
Henderson hosted a Team Appreciation Lunch at Williamsburg Landing on April 13th for everyone on the Williamsburg Landing Renovation project. We had over 100 people attend and the lunch was held to express our appreciation of everyone’s dedication on this project.
Henderson Participates in Williamsburg Pottery Grand Re-Opening
Henderson was proud to participate in the Williamsburg Pottery's Grand Re-Opening Ceremony on Thursday, April 5th, 2012. This iconic $30 million expansion project includes three new buildings on 19 acres and more than 161,000 square feet of modern retail and office space with 9 linear miles of shelving. The new structures spread across a half-mile fronting U.S. Route 60, also known as Richmond Road.
Henderson Celebrates 55 Years
Saturday, March 24, 2012 marked the 55th anniversary of Dave and Shirley Henderson founding Henderson, Inc. We chose to celebrate this milestone at our quarterly company meeting with all employees present. Vice President Leslie H. Schultz spoke about how Henderson has evolved over the years and her vision for our future.
Easter Bunny Visits Henderson
The Easter Bunny made a surprise appearance at Henderson's quarterly company meeting on Thursday, March 29, 2012. The Bunny handed out Easter eggs filled with treats and posed for pictures with employees. A big thank you goes out to the Easter Bunny for stopping by and spreading some Spring cheer!
Leslie H. Schultz Speaks at Career Night
Vice President Leslie H. Schultz spoke at Christchurch School’s Career Night event on Tuesday, March 13, 2012. Christchurch is a private boarding school located in Christchurch, Virginia where Henderson, Inc. has performed many projects. The school also has ties to the Henderson family.
Leslie spoke to a group of approximately 80 students about careers in the construction industry. She detailed the suggested education, career paths, and possible hurdles within the field. She also spoke about the path she took and her personal experiences as a construction industry professional.
