Henderson Receives STEP Award

We are proud to announce that we were a recipient of an Associated Builders and Contractors STEP (Safety Training and Evaluation Process) Award for 2013, which was presented on July 18th.

The STEP Award is presented to those contractors who have achieved a certain level of safety – both in their ongoing efforts in the development of a quality safety program and their safety ratings. Congratulations to our Safety Director Dave Thompson for his passion in leading our safety program and to all of our employees that make safety our number one goal!

 

Henderson’s Safety Director participates in ABC Award Luncheon

Henderson’s Safety Director Dave Thompson participated in the ABC Annual Safety Award luncheon on Friday, July 20th in Virginia Beach.

Dave served on a selection committee and handed out awards at the annual luncheon. He is also a member of ABC and serves on the ABC Safety Committee.

Safety Director Dave Thompson Guest Speaker at PCEA Meeting

Henderson Safety Director Dave Thompson was a guest speaker at the February Membership meeting of the National Professional Construction Estimators Association of America (PCEA), Hampton Roads Chapter on Wednesday evening, February 8th.

Dave spoke about the tangible and intangible costs of safety. Safety is an unexpected cost of construction that many don’t take seriously. With more emphasis on safe working sites by the customer, the cost is not just in the training required, but the effort to ensure that each and every project and construction company has a clean safety slate.

So you want to do some digging around your house? Most people don’t consider things like planting flowers or pulling up shrubs as being “Excavations,” or they don’t consider such activities as posting any kind of risk. Other than sunburn or a back ache that is. But if your house has natural gas, or if your electrical service is underground, you might be putting yourself and your family at considerable risk. August 11th was national Call 811 day, bringing awareness to this very topic.

Henderson Superintendent honored with Safety Achievement Award nomination

Henderson Project Superintendent Rich Warfield is being honored on Friday, July 22 as a 2010 Tradesperson Safety Achievement Award nominee. The Virginia Chapter of the Associated Builders and Contractors is hosting the luncheon and recognizing each of the five nominees for their continuous efforts towards safety excellence. Rich was nominated for being proactive on his job site and posing questions and figurative scenarios that caused the State Corporation Commission to write new procedures for such events.
