Henderson, Inc. was proud to be on hand the morning of May 8 to celebrate the Grand Opening and Dedication of Old Point National Bank’s new corporate headquarters. The new corporate headquarters is a 54,200 SF, six-story building with a corporate penthouse level retreat located in historic downtown Hampton at the corner of Queens Way and Wine Street. The building is a combination of steel frame and architectural precast concrete.
The corporate headquarters houses the bank branch office as well as executive offices, commercial lending, private banking and administrative staff. The first floor provides its customers with traditional banking services, with Class A office space and mail room facilities provided for Old Point National Bank’s use on the second through fourth floors. The fifth and the sixth floors contain corporate management offices, boardroom, and training facilities.
The skin of the building is precast with a brick inlay. The precast was formed, poured, and set in a plant in North Carolina and then shipped in large pieces to the site. The precast has metal plates that were cast into forms and attached to the building by welding the plates to the steel structure. This method allowed us to completely enclose the building within 30 days, so weather would not impact the timeline of completion. Old Point incorporated a piece of its own history into the headquarters by installing the 12-ton polished steel vault door that served at its first location. As an interesting note, the historic door was considered “used” when Old Point purchased it in 1924. Reuse, recycling, and environmentalism are also important to the project. The wood, asphalt, brick and concrete debris generated by the original Downtown Hampton branch demolition were sent to a recycling center.
The project hovers delicately above an extensive treasure of archeological significance and efforts to preserve this history have been taken by the project team. On the first floor of the Corporate Headquarters, Old Point designed an exhibit highlighting the accomplishments of the archeological dig. Several of the pieces discovered are on display, accompanied by a series of pictures and narratives illustrating the process, the finds, and the history behind the efforts.
During the Dedication Ceremony, we had the opportunity to present Mr. Rob Shuford, Chairman, President and CEO, and Mr. Jeff Sandford, Senior Vice President, with the American flags that flew from the building during the project.
