It’s true what J.R.R. Tolkien said. If more of us valued food and cheer and song above hoarded gold, it would be a merrier world.
So a merrier world we set out to help build!
Henderson Incorporated is excited to help celebrate the launch of The Hound’s Tale restaurant, which opened its doors last month to diners. The new eatery, which we were proud to lead the construction and build out for, is tucked off DOG Street near Colonial Williamsburg at 515 Prince George Street.
Henderson’s ties to the location run deep, with the company having also led the construction for the Griffin Arms building, in which the restaurant is located.
The uniquely kitschy restaurant’s design and aesthetic was constructed over the course of 10 weeks and included creating a full service kitchen, bar and dining area. Finishes included custom casework for the bar, epoxy flooring for the kitchen area, plank flooring in the dining area and multiple accent paint colors and tiered drywall soffits throughout the space.
The goal of the design, envisioned by Guernsey Tingle Architects, was to create the feeling of a British-pub through deep wood finishes and a warm color pallet, but with a modern, light-hearted twist. An open, clean dining area with pops of color and comfortable seating sets the stage for a fun evening in what is bound to become one of Williamsburg’s hottest new spots.
The Hound’s Tale is another culinary-creation of Don and Geri Pratt, who also own Aromas Coffeehouse in nearby Merchants Square and in City Center in Newport News. Their vision was to create another place where friends can enjoy delicious food and hand crafted cocktails.
The fun menu includes “chow” such as fried chickpea cakes, roasted organic chicken and wild mushroom wellington. The restaurant also features unique “treats,” including s’mores, beeramisu and Salted Caramel Mocha Pie. Fun cocktails round out the menu with sips such as Ophea’s Elixir – raspberry liqueur, crème a la blackberry, lime, simple syrup, ginger ale over ice – and Hannah’s Smokin Banana – a blend of smoked scotch, banana infused Jameson and blackberry infused brandy.
Our goal was to give The Hound’s tale a space that went “beyond the building,” offering diners a special experience that’s a little out of the ordinary, making them want to come back again and again not just for the food, but also for the atmosphere.
Congrats to our partners Don and Geri on another successful venture!
