The New Kent Fire Station #5, completed in 2019, represents 23,000 people who live in New Kent. The staff housed in Station #5 includes one captain, one lieutenant, and five firefighters/EMTs. Three bays at the station are the home of a fire engine, a quint, and a medical ambulance. The station will serve as a prototype for those to come and it features a workshop, a bunk room, a kitchen, a decontamination room and additional rooms meeting firefighter needs. Upon the completion of the facility, the average response time for the NKFD was drastically reduced from 19 minutes to about 8.5 minutes.
